TJ Track - Meet Recap - Cardinal Invite

TJ Men and Women excel at Cardinal Classic
The Thomas Jefferson Men's and Women's track team embarked on a new season with a successful day at the Cardinal Classic Invite at Elizabeth High School. The Men's team took home second place honors by displaying team depth in the sprints and middle distance. The 4 x 200 meter relay team of Jared Lewis (Fr), Bryce King (Sr), Dakota Roach (Jr), and Chris Perry (Sr), cruised to a victory with a very respectable time of 1:33.8. Lewis, competing in his first high school track meet was not only asked to lead off the 4x200 relay, but to anchor the 4x100 meter relay team, and helped guide them to a 2nd place finish. Fellow freshmen Matt Averyhurst and Shane Oliver, along with Bryce King comprised the 4x100 team. Lewis rounded out his day with a 4th place finish in the 100. In addition to the sprint relays, TJ took home five out of the top 10 spots in the 400 meter dash, lead by Chris Perry (2nd), Dakota Roach (3rd), and Efrem Woldu (So, 7th). Jalil DeBose (So, 9th) and Michael Crammer (Sr, 10th) rounded out TJ's 400 competitors. For the first time in the current coaching staff's tenure, TJ actually fielded two 4x 800 meter relay teams. TJ's 'A' team of DeDose, Ben Makovsky (Fr), Stephen Shirk (Jr) and Mason Bertram (Sr), took 3rd place. Bertram also excelled in the 800 meter run, by taking home second. To round out the Men's accolades, King placed 2nd in the 200 meter dash and Roach 3rd in the long jump. Also of note was Evan Wilson's personal best in the high jump of 5' 10", good for 5th place.

The women finish 6th on the day, lead by TJ's only individual winner, Cheria Cauley (Jr) in the 100 meter dash. Cheria also teamed up with Avyn Vaden (Sr), Erica Crowe (Sr) and Ivory Allen (Sr), winning the 800 meter sprint medley, and with Allen, Sabrina Harris (So) and Morgan Veasley (Jr), to win the 4 x 200 meter relay. The Women's 4 x 100 meter relay team of Crowe, Harris, Krystal Kelley (So) and Shaleace Jackson (Fr) placed 4th. Andrea Qualls (So) picked up where she left off last year taking 4th in the 400 meters. Avyn Vaden rounded out TJ's scoring by placing 5th in the high jump, 6th in the long jump and 8th in the 100 meter hurdles.
